Here's What's In The News:
What is US Lacrosse and what does it do for my kids?
You may not know this, but your child is a member of US Lacrosse, the National Governing Body of the sport of lacrosse since 1998. US Lacrosse is dedicated to providing leadership, support and resources to members of the lacrosse community. Devoted to promoting the game while preserving its integrity and spirit, US Lacrosse provides programs and services to over 300,000 members in communities across the nation.
I signed my child up for US Lacrosse membership, but what else do I get besides the insurance?
In addition to the peace of mind that comes with US Lacrosse’s supplemental accident and liability insurance, there are many other programs for players and parents. What kids love the most is Lacrosse Magazine and laxmagazine.com which include the latest news as well as interactive information and games like the USL widget. US Lacrosse also operates the US Lacrosse National Team for both men and women. In case you missed it, the Women’s National Team just beat Australia in the world cup! US Lacrosse even offers a Junior Officials Certification Program so your kids can get certified and stay involved in the sport of lacrosse while making some money!
For parents, the US Lacrosse Nationwide Parents Guide is a must read as it includes rules of the boys and girls games as well as an overview of how parents can get involved and appropriately support the sport and their child. Our Sportsmanship Card Program has also been well received by coaches and parents alike as it is designed to help ensure a positive culture for the sport of lacrosse at the youth level. Not only does USL offer a Coaches Education Program, we also offer a Physical Education Curriculum for schools so they can easily implement lacrosse into their own schools. Both parents and kids will enjoy the Fan Fest which is part of the US Lacrosse National Convention in January 2010 which boasts the largest lacrosse-specific vendor hall in the country showcasing the latest equipment, clothing, technology and more, along with live field demonstrations and educational sessions.
How can I best support my child playing lacrosse?
Lacrosse is about having fun. As parents, your role is to make sure that your child is enjoying his or her lacrosse experience. Be positive about your child’s participation. Encourage. Support. Volunteer. Listen. Pay attention to your child’s progress. You and your child will participate in many games over the years, and the friendships and great experiences will certainly outweigh the win/loss record in your child’s memory.

"Recently, I was privileged to coach a team of All Star boys (Under 13 team) from Central PA. We took the boys out to Ohio for the annual US Lacrosse Youth Festival Tournament last weekend to compete against boys of similar age from across the United States. We played a total of five games over three days. The event was fantastic as our boys and families (and coaches) had a ton of fun!"

Your Body:
No Gym, No Problem
by Rashad Devo
When I started training lacrosse players back in 1996, I quickly found out that lacrosse did not get first priority in the weight room. That has changed on the college level, but there are still a lot of high school and pro players that do not get to the gym for various reasons. To combat this issue, I created a program that only uses two pieces of equipment: a medicine ball and dumbbells.

Matters of the Heart
(Lacrosse Magazine)
US Lacrosse's plan for commotio cordis includes research, education and access to AEDs. US Lacrosse recently took a leadership role among sport-based organizations in addressing commotio cordis. “Injury research shows that lacrosse is a relatively safe sport to play, but the risk of catastrophic injury still exists, as it does in every sport,” said Steve Stenersen, executive director of US Lacrosse.
